Who We Are
Alive under Five is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda that seeks to improve the lives of poor and vulnerable children under the of 5 years, providing an immediate and lasting change in their lives.
The organization is looking to reduce poverty through providing vocational skills that will improve household incomes. The organization also seeks to promote good health and wellbeing through; digging boreholes to provide access to clean water in areas where clean water is a luxury, as well as sensitizing women about proper child nutrition
According to the World Health Organisation, Sub Saharan Africa has the largest number of households leaving on less than a dollar a day with Uganda having 7,277,920 children recorded deaths under 5 in Uganda with an infant mortality rate of 58.14/1000 live births. This number could have been higher as those that die outside hospitals in rural arrears are not recorded. The majority of these deaths are a result of extreme poverty in the rural communities causing severe malnutrition and death.
